Al Boraq, Africa’s first high-speed train
In November 2018, the Tangier–Casablanca line opened. Morocco joined the very small club of high-speed rail.
A work you can board, not only describe.
On 15 November 2018, Mohammed VI inaugurated Al Boraq, between Tangier and Casablanca. It was the first high-speed line on the African continent. The name comes from tradition: the steed of the night journey.
The trip between the two cities, once close to five hours, falls under two hours and ten minutes on the fastest service. The line is not a prestige toy. It ties Tangier’s great port, the industry of the North and the economic capital.
Behind the train are workshops, drivers, Moroccan engineering alongside partners, and a decision held for more than a decade. That is what an advance looks like: a work you can board, not only describe.
Al Boraq is also a fair picture of the country this house wants to show. Demanding, concrete, turned toward Africa as much as toward Europe.
