7 October 2026: petitioners before the Fourth Committee
The UN recalls the wording of resolution 2797. Some petitioners ask that the autonomy plan be given a chance; others refuse any compromise on self-determination.
On 7 October 2026, the Fourth Committee heard petitioners on the Sahara. The UN release recalls that in October 2025 the Security Council adopted resolution 2797, which expressed its full support for the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy in facilitating and conducting negotiations, taking as a basis Morocco’s Autonomy Proposal, with a view to a just, lasting and mutually acceptable resolution consistent with the Charter.
The same release says that some petitioners asked that Morocco’s autonomy plan be given a chance, while others stressed that there should be no compromise on the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination.
