15 October 2026: the Fourth Committee adopts a text on the Sahara
Draft A/C.4/81/L.4 was adopted by a recorded vote. It rests on resolutions 1754 (2007) and 2797 (2025). The vote tally for this text is not given in the passage used here.
On 15 October 2026, the Fourth Committee of the General Assembly, which handles special political and decolonisation questions, adopted by a recorded vote the draft resolution “Question of Western Sahara” (document A/C.4/81/L.4), among more than twenty texts.
According to the UN press release, the draft would have the General Assembly support the negotiation process launched by Security Council resolution 1754 (2007) and backed by resolution 2797 (2025), in order to reach a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution.
The same release gives a tally for a different text, on the 1960 Declaration. It does not, in the passage used here, give the number of votes for or against the Sahara text. That figure is therefore not written on this page.
